Autumn 2005 Click for information on the new Choose Life license plate

Dear Pro-Life Friend,
Autumn, 2005

As the President of Right to Life of Montana, I encourage you to continue to join us in our common cause to restore protection for those vulnerable people whose lives are threatened by abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia.

As always, our focus is to educate people about the reality of abortion. Right to Life of Montana distributes information on fetal development, the physical and emotional consequences of abortion, and information on law and legislation. We give referrals to crisis pregnancy centers around the state to support the life choice. Please check the website periodically for updated information about Right to Life of Montana:
www.rtlmt.org.

We have launched a TV advertising campaign that is intended to persuade young men and women to seek counseling and help when they feel unable to continue with their pregnancies. The latest figures show that those between the ages of 15 and 24 account for almost 60% of abortions in Montana. The ads are being run on cable which goes to most of the college dorms in the state.

As usual, of course, we held our annual Teen Oratory Contest in March and sent a teen representative to the National Teen Oratory and Convention. She is an outstanding young woman and we were proud to sponsor her. Watch for the name Camille Perry in the future.

We have issued a "Choose Life" license plate. Each purchase will generate $20 for RTLM which will go toward a project to directly assist those in crisis pregnancies in Montana. We will use these funds to facilitate prenatal sonograms throughout the state. Statistics have shown that 9 out of 10 women who are contemplating abortion change their minds after seeing a sonogram of their baby. It is one of the most effective tools available to us, and yet many of our Crisis Pregnancy Centers and Hospitals in small towns in Montana do not have a sonogram machine. In addition, the license plates are a very visible show of support for those who uphold the Right to Life in Montana. We should stand up and let others know that we are a force to be reckoned with. Others will be encouraged to join us when they see that there are a lot of us!

We have purchased a billboard that can be moved to different locations throughout the state. The billboard has generated many comments by those who have seen it. In addition, several Right to Life Chapters have erected and maintain billboards in their local areas.

Last year, Right to Life of Montana continued to champion pro-life public policy and to represent your pro-life voice in Helena during the legislative session. The members of the Right to Life of Montana Political Action Committee compiled a list of candidates for the election whom we felt had voted in the past and would continue to vote to protect the right to life of the unborn, the aged, and the disabled. Our endorsement and support of a candidate was based on voting records, questionnaires, interviews, and personal recommendations by those who know them.

We mailed postcards to the voters listing the candidates we endorsed.  Successes at the national level have been outstanding. The Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Unborn Victims of Violence Bill passed the House and Senate and were signed into law by President Bush. President Bush's
appointees will change the makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court significantly. For the first time since 1973 we stand a realistic chance of overturning Roe v. Wade.

October is Respect Life Month, and chapters throughout the state have been showing their opposition to abortion by forming Life Chains. The Life Chain is a peaceful public witness by Pro-life Americans and Canadians standing for one hour in silent prayer for an end to abortion. It is a
visual statement of solidarity of belief that abortion kills babies and hurts women. We stand in support of the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception to its natural end. Those of us who join in the Life Chain are strengthened in our resolve to bring an end to abortion on
demand. I encourage everyone who is Pro-Life to participate in a Life Chain if you can.

At the present time, there are Right to Life Chapters in Big Timber, Bozeman, Butte, Hamilton, Helena, Kalispell, Lewistown, Malta, Missoula, and Sidney (and surrounding counties). Please consider participating in our activities in the chapter nearest you. Even better, form a chapter in your county. For help with that, you may call either Gregg Trude, Right to Life of Montana Executive Director at 406-443-0827, or Lianna Karlin, President, Right to Life of Montana at 406-932-6052. Either of them will be anxious to assist you in getting started.

Sincerely for the Unborn,
Lianna Karlin, President, RTLM
